メインディスプレイとしてMSIのoptix MAG241CVという画面が湾曲したゲーミングディスプレイを使っていて、これで特に不満なかったのですが、EIZOのev2450という仕事で使っていたディスプレイが不要になり、自宅に持ってかえって接続しデュアルモニターとして運用していました。
そしてふとこのモニターは縦方向に回転させることができるのを思い出し、よくあるお医者様のディスプレイのように1枚を縦方向にで設置して運用してみると、これが大正解。
最初は PC ディスプレイを縦方向で使うのは慣れていないのでどうなるかなと思いましたが、今ではかなりの作業、文章の入力などをそちらのディスプレイで完結させることが多くなってきました。
ウェブページなどはそもそも上から下にどんどん読んでいくものが多いので、スクロールの手間が省けるし、最近はスマートフォンで縦画面に慣れているので思ったほど違和感もなく受けられました。
まあ、昔と違い現在は様々な解像度や比率が巷に溢れているので、Web ページやアプリケーションの設計者は柔軟なレスポンシブルデザインを考えないといけなく、大変そうだなあ…なんて思いながら、便利に使わせてもらっています。

At first I wasn't used to using a PC display in portrait mode, so I wondered what would happen, but now I'm often able to complete quite a bit of work, text entry, etc. on that display.
Many of the web pages, for example, are read from top to bottom in the first place, so it saves me the trouble of scrolling, and since I'm used to a vertical screen on my smartphone these days, I didn't feel as uncomfortable as I thought I would.
Well, unlike the old days, there are now so many different resolutions and ratios on the market that web page and application designers have to think about flexible and responsive design, and it seems to be a lot of work... but I'm using it conveniently.
